Sunrise Vision Care has provided eye care to Boulder’s community since 1985. We focus on providing high-quality, personalized eye care and eyewear in a comfortable professional setting.
Our opticians, technicians and assistants are certified by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the American Optometric Association Paraoptometric Section. We expand our knowledge of eye care, glasses, contact lenses, LASIK and eye diseases with frequent continuing education.
Dr. Karen Wharton earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1983 from Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon, and has practiced optometry in Colorado ever since then. She enjoys the challenge of finding the right solution for each individual patient’s eye care needs, whether the patient needs glasses, contact lenses, LASIK, CRT, or help with an eye problem such as infection, dry eyes, glaucoma or cataracts. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Colorado Optometric Association, serving as President in 2011-2012. Dr. Wharton served on the Colorado State Board of Optometric Examiners for eight years. Dr. Wharton is Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry. Outside of the office, she enjoys reading, hiking and traveling with her husband Eugene.
The Colorado Optometric Association selected Dr. Wharton as Colorado’s 2010 Optometrist of the Year in recognition of service to the profession and the visual welfare of the community!
Dr. Joshua Olson, a Colorado native, began his first career teaching 4th grade before pursuing his dream of becoming an optometrist. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry, his Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and his Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University. Dr. Olson’s optometry training included preceptorships in Germany, a Veterans Hospital in Pennsylvania, a medical practice in Oregon and an optometry practice in Colorado Springs.
Dr. Olson’s full scope of eye care includes family practice, specialty contact lenses including corneal refractive therapy (CRT), laser surgery co-management, and care for medical eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. He enjoys working with patients of all ages and strives to make each patient’s experience a comfortable one.
A member of the American Optometric Association, the Colorado Optometric Association and the Northern Colorado Optometric Society, Dr. Olson enjoys traveling, skiing, running and mountain biking.
